Building in Faith
Fairview Baptist Church’s Vision for the Future
For Fairview Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, the decision to build a new multipurpose facility is about far more than expansion. It is about creating space for ministry, growth, and the lives they believe God will continue to transform through their church community.
Pastor John Tunnell shared that Fairview Baptist Church strives to be “a family for Jesus, for hope, and for you,” and this vision continues to shape the church’s mission and impact within its community. As the church grew and welcomed new families and faces, leadership recognized new opportunities and challenges that arose with growth.
According to Pastor Tunnell, the church recognized the necessity of a new multipurpose building nearly a decade ago. Some of the church’s current facilities were beginning to deteriorate, while an increase in membership created a greater need for additional space. After completing construction on a worship center in 2008, the church prayerfully considered whether it was the right time to begin another building project. Now, they believe His answer is clear.
“We feel strongly that God is leading us to build now.”
“We feel strongly that God is leading us to build now,” he shared, emphasizing that the decision is rooted not simply in meaningless growth, but in preparing for future ministry opportunities and making room for the people they trust God will continue to draw into the church.
To help make the vision possible, Fairview Baptist Church partnered with SBTF during the financing stage. Pastor Tunnell described their support as “invaluable,” especially during seasons where challenges threatened to delay progress. Like many long-term projects, Fairview’s construction has not been without obstacles. Covid delayed the church’s original plans, and a later leadership transition required much of the process to begin again. Even through uncertainty, Pastor Tunnell reflected on how God remained faithful by providing strength, leadership, and endurance throughout every stage of the journey.
While construction is still in the early stages and not yet highly visible within the surrounding community, excitement among church members continues to grow. Members have been encouraged by the progress being shared and are excited about what the new facility represents for the future of the church.
At its core, this project reflects more than expansion. It reflects faith, perseverance, and a commitment to preparing for what comes next. Pastor Tunnell encourages churches considering similar projects to seek “the Lord’s clear direction, unity of purpose, and provision,” a message that mirrors Fairview’s own journey throughout this process.
He also shared gratitude toward those who invest financially into church projects like theirs, saying, “There could be no greater return on your investment,” recognizing the eternal impact those funds can have on communities and lives.
As Fairview Baptist Church continues building toward the future, the new multipurpose facility stands as a reminder that sometimes building in faith means making room for what God is still preparing to do next.
